It’s Going Awesome, But I Keep Getting Better: A Personal Journey

You might have heard me say, “It’s going awesome, but I keep getting better.” It’s not just a catchy phrase; it’s a reflection of a profound experience that reshaped my entire outlook on life. Let me take you back to where it all began.

There was this day – if I had to rank it, it was a solid 10 out of 10. My attitude was optimistic, I felt accomplished in my work, and everything seemed to align perfectly. But here’s the kicker: I had a sincere heart of humbleness. I wasn’t trying to fix the world anymore. My mind and heart were aligned with the serenity prayer, accepting what I couldn’t change and finding the courage to change what I could, with the wisdom to know the difference.

I thought it couldn’t get any better. But then, the next day was even better – an 11 out of 10, if you will. Impossibly, the day after that was even more amazing. This trend continued for a solid month, each day surpassing the last in some way.

What was the secret? Prayer and Biblical meditation played a role. But also, I had a profound realization: life is simple, but our minds make it complex. I stopped trying to fix everything and embraced an overwhelming feeling of humility. I understood that I could change the world through small acts, without needing to be in charge or take credit. I didn’t have to construct the next greatest startup, but maybe I could simply hold the door open to someone who could.

This experience completely shifted my perspective on personal growth and daily life. I began to live by a simple motto: “Love God. Love People.” I realized that many people had made a huge impact on my life through very small gestures. A kind word to the right person could drastically change the entire course of human history.

During this state of bliss, something extraordinary happened – I met and married my wife. It was as if the universe was aligning to bring more joy into my life than I ever thought possible.

Now, I won’t sugarcoat it. Eventually, this intense state of bliss drifted away. But the lessons I learned during that time stuck with me. I try to stay humble, love others, and live with my heart instead of overthinking with my mind. It’s a constant reminder I need because I tend to get caught up in my thoughts rather than acting with love, kindness, and understanding.

I want to emphasize that this was a personal epiphany that changed my way of thinking. It doesn’t mean that others can expect similar results by simply doing what I’ve done. Everyone’s journey is unique.

So when I say, “It’s going awesome, but I keep getting better,” it’s not about having perfect days all the time. It’s about recognizing that even if I have a day that seems worse than yesterday, I’m still miles ahead of where I was months or even years ago. It’s about continuous growth, maintaining humility, and focusing on the simple yet profound act of loving God and loving people.

This experience taught me that true growth isn’t always about grand gestures or monumental changes. Sometimes, it’s about the small, consistent steps we take each day. It’s about maintaining an attitude of gratitude and humility, even when things aren’t perfect.

Remember, you don’t have to change the entire world. Sometimes, changing someone’s world with a small act of kindness is more than enough. Keep it simple, stay humble, and never stop growing. After all, it might be going awesome now, but who knows? Tomorrow could be even better.
